Dialogue on the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence

4th Annual Dialogue on the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence: Advancing the Cause of Disarmament for Development

This year’s theme, “Advancing the Cause of Disarmament for Development”, is most appropriate given the increasing tensions throughout the world amid the reality of growing militarization, particularly nuclear proliferation, while at the same time success in poverty reduction continues to be an elusive objective as income and gender inequality become more pronounced with increasing disparity, depravation, discrimination and disregard of global solidarity. Given this reality, the disarmament for development agenda highlights the importance of understanding the tradeoff between deploying resources for military expenditures versus directing them towards eradication of poverty and ensuring sustainable development for our people and our planet.

The dialogue will be held on the "UN International Day of Non-Violence" which also coincides with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2nd.

This event will take place at the Athenaeum and is free and open to the public.

Since seating is limited, please RSVP.
