Social and Behavorial Sciences

Soka University of America’s concentration in social and behavioral sciences strives to understand human lives, behaviors, and institutions in their social, historical, and cultural environments. The concentration embraces an interdisciplinary approach to examining the human condition, incorporating perspectives from anthropology, economics, political science, psychology, and sociology.  Our courses provide students with theoretical and methodological tools to examine and address social issues and concerns from multiple comparative perspectives. 

Social & Behavioral Sciences Concentration student learning outcomes are:

1. To demonstrate and articulate an understanding of and critically evaluate how social scientists view the ways that individuals and societies are interconnected within social, historical, political, and cultural environments
2. To formulate original questions and apply theoretical and methodological tools to critically investigate and explain human lives, behaviors, and institutions in their social, historical, and cultural environments
3. To communicate effectively their understandings and explanations of the world in a manner appropriate to the social sciences
4. To share their work with others in a manner that reflects an active engagement in their local and global communities
