A unique aspect of Soka University of America (SUA) curriculum requires that all students participate in a semester of study abroad during their junior year. The cost of study abroad has been built into the SUA tuition structure. Including study abroad in both the curriculum and tuition fee reflects SUA's educational philosophy of creating relevance for students between their classroom and the world around them.
SUA strives to add to a student's intellectual grasp of the world in all its diversity. Study abroad provides students with the opportunity to further acquire the habits and dispositions of a global citizen. Students return to the SUA campus with a network of new friends and associates with whom they may nurture deep bonds and lifelong relationships.
The Study Abroad & International Internships Office (SAII) carefully cultivates programs in countries where the principal language corresponds to a student's language of study at SUA; which includes Chinese, French, Japanese or Spanish. SUA faculty work along side the SAII Office to determine the academic content of each program. Study abroad courses take place at a university of recognized quality and international distinction. If you have additional questions regarding study abroad or international internships, please feel free to contact Alex Okuda, Director of Study Abroad & International Internships.
