  • Cumulative  GPA – 2.5
  • Suited for beginning and low intermediate levels of Spanish.  


Academics:

Spring Semester 

Students enroll in the following programs:
1) March Intensive Spanish (1 month) This four-week program is for students who would like to improve their proficiency in the Spanish language in a short period of time. Students will be in the classroom for a total of 80 hours.
2)  SP 1 (3 months) Students may complete up to three courses of college level Spanish as well as additional electives in various fields during one twelve-week session in Costa Rica. Several of the electives offered are taught in Spanish.

Fall Semester
Students enroll in the following programs:

1) September Intensive Spanish (1 month)  This four-week program is for students who would like to improve their proficiency in the Spanish language in a short period of time. Students will be in the classroom for a total of 80 hours.
2) FL 1 (3 months)  Students may complete up to three courses of college level Spanish as well as additional electives in various fields during one twelve-week session in Costa Rica. Several of the electives offered are taught in Spanish.

  • Expected to earn 16 credits
  • Very strong in language acquisition.
  • Advanced students can enroll in the content courses for international students. 
  • Students enter Costa Rica as a tourist and before the 90 days limit of stay expires they leave the country for at least 72 hours and enter again as a tourist. Soka pays for an optional excursion to Panama in order to enter Costa Rica the 2nd time. 
  • 50 program participants
  • ELAP – Experiential Learning Abroad Programs (Optional Internships) available (students must pay). Certificate will be given in the end.


Field trips:

  • Explore the Arenal Volcano, the town of La Fortuna, and experience the many natural wonders of the region.  Tour local sustainable farm, and enjoy a lunch made from products grown right there.
  • Evening observation of glowing hot boulders descending from the volcano.
  • Relax in the area's hot springs whose waters are heated by the volcano itself. Other optional activities in the area include horseback riding and hiking in the rain forest.
  • Visit Tamarindo is located in the province of Guanacaste and surrounded by national parks to the north and south and magnificent mountains to the east. Students will be able to bask in the sunlight on white sand beaches, swim in the crystal clear waters, and participate in a number of optional tours such as kayaking, surfing, snorkeling, or horseback riding. During this excursion students will enjoy a typical Costa Rican dinner and watch dancers demonstrate traditional dances of Costa Rica and the region.
