Assistant Coach – Swimming & Diving

The Assistant Coach of Aquatics reports directly to the Aquatics Director/Head Coach as well as the Director of Athletics & Recreation. The Assistant Coach has responsibilities as assigned by the Aquatics Director which may include but is not limited to identifying and recruiting potential student-athletes; assistance in managing the budget for team travel, recruiting, purchase and issuance of equipment as well assistance in planning and implementing training schedules for student-athletes.


  1. Assist in the planning and implementation of the appropriate training program for student-athletes engaged in college aquatic sports (swimming, diving and water polo).
  2. Assess the equipment needs for the aquatics programs and implement plan for acquiring and issuance of equipment
  3. Plan and implement travel for aquatics teams - securing transportation, per diem, entry fees, etc
  4. Plan competition and training calendar aquatics teams.
  5. Responsible for the inventory, maintenance, repair, safety, distribution and disposal of all equipment.
  6. Assist in the implementation of camps and clinics.
  7. Assist in identifying and recruiting of potential student-athletes.
  8. Assist in the management of the budget.
  9. Accept other assignments from the Aquatics Director


The knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties of this position are typically acquired through the following combination of education, expertise, skills and/or equivalent:


A Bachelor's degree in a related field with a preference of a Master's degree.                    


  1. Minimum of three years recent coaching experience at the Collegiate level as a Head or Assistant Coach
  2. Minimum of two years recent experience managing/coordinating camps or clinics.
  3. Minimum of three years experience in supervising instructional staff. 


  1. CPR, First Aid and Lifesaving for Swim Coaches
  2. Coach member of USA Swimming.
  3. Ability to operate a stopwatch and other timing equipment utilized for aquatic sports including the Colorado 5 timing system.
  4. Effective oral, written and interpersonal skills
  5. Ability to create and support a work community that allows a diverse group of students, faculty and staff to grow and develop individually and collectively as part of a collegiate athletic program.
  6. Ability to organize and manage a complex college record keeping function; prepare, maintain, and interpret statistical data with competency in the use of Hy-Tek team manager program.
  7. Competency in the use of the Dartfish biomechanics software program in use as a tool to evaluate athlete's skill level.
  8. High proficiency in personal computer systems utilizing databases, word processing, graphics, spreadsheets, to include MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Access, Netscape and other Microsoft applications as well as the use of Club Assistant and Hy-Tek Team Manager as roster management systems.
  9. Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with diverse groups of students, faculty and staff.
  10. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to discern the urgency of appropriate decision making processes.
