The Ikeda Library at Soka University of America is seeking a Full-Time Library Assistant. This is a paraprofessional position under the supervision of the Library Director. The assistant will perform various functions supporting the day-to-day operations of the library. Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: circulation desk tasks and reference responsibilities. The assistant will also be responsible for certain special projects that entail assisting the University Archivist & Photographer. Some of these archive-related duties include collecting, digitizing, preserving, and storing university records of historic value. This position also requires the assistant to take photographs at university events for preservation in the SUA archives and for use in SUA publications.
This position will include some weeknight and/or weekend hours.
The successful candidate must have knowledge and experience regarding the daily operations of libraries and the functions of library systems. This also includes knowledge and experience pertaining to university archives and photography. In addition, the Library Assistant will demonstrate the following competencies:

- High ethical and professional standards.
- Knowledge of library practices, principles and materials; the ability to perform reference work and conduct effective patron interviews.
- Outstanding proficiency in computer systems utilizing data bases, MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, and other library and photography related applications.
- Bachelor of Arts degree desirable, AA Degree, or equivalent combination of education as well as library, university archives, and photography experience required.
- Bilingual in English and Japanese as well as reading and writing proficiency in both languages.
