Description: Soka University of America (www.soka.edu) is searching for an innovative teacher-scholar at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Composition and Rhetoric to begin in Fall 2010. A selective liberal arts university founded upon the principles of peace and human rights, SUA is committed to a global and inter- or multidisciplinary approach to education and aims to foster close intellectual relations between faculty members and students by encouraging mentoring on the part of the faculty. Students come from all over the world.
Area of specialty is open, though we welcome candidates committed to developing an imaginative curriculum alongside inventive pedagogical and scholarly practices, and with inter- or multidisciplinary profiles, a promising record of scholarship, experience teaching and advising students of diverse backgrounds, and an interest in contributing to the development of our growing writing program as it approaches its tenth year.
Teaching load of five classes a year includes small first-year and upper-division writing seminars along with courses in the general education curriculum and/or a three-week research-oriented "learning cluster" seminar focused on the candidate and students' mutual interests.
The university's beautiful campus, located in Aliso Viejo, California, is within easy access of the rich cultural offerings of both Los Angeles and San Diego.
Salary is competitive.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or related field, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in scholarship and undergraduate teaching.
