We seek a psychological scientist with training and research in basic or applied psychology, broadly defined, with a preference for cognitive, neuroscience, health, or industrial-organizational psychology. Having the ability and willingness to work collegially is essential, as is a demonstrated understanding of the interdisciplinary curriculum in the liberal arts tradition.

Qualifications: As part of a five-course teaching load, candidates will be expected to teach some combination of undergraduate courses in Introduction to Psychology, research methods, upper division psychology courses in the candidate’s area of interest, and other courses in the interdisciplinary general education program or core curriculum.

The Pacific Basin Research Center (PBRC) at Soka University of America (SUA), a premier liberal arts university in Orange County, California, is pleased to announce a call for applications for the John D. Montgomery Post-Doctoral Fellowship. The Fellowship is intended to support young scholars whose research and teaching emphasizes human development in and connections among the peoples of the Pacific Basin, defined broadly to encompass Asia, Oceania, and the Americas.

This year’s theme is “Asian America and Intersections across the Pacific.” Preference will be given to applicants in the social sciences or humanities whose research and teaching interests are characterized by multidisciplinary or transnational approaches to historical and contemporary issues of migration and settlement across/within the Pacific Basin.

The Fellow will be expected to teach two courses in both fall and spring semesters (a 2-2 teaching load), including two sections of Introduction to the Pacific Basin, Asian America in Comparative Perspective (International Studies 342), and one further course as assigned by the Dean of Faculty. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the PBRC and the International Studies concentration by participating in Center events, mentoring students, and conducting independent research.

Soka University of America is offering a part-time English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor position. The course title is TOEIC & Grammar Lab. TOEIC & Grammar Lab students will be from Soka Jr. Women’s College (SWC) in Japan – participating in the English Language Programs (ELP’s) on the Soka University of America campus.

Contract dates are from June 4, 2024 – July 30, 2024.    The first class is scheduled for Thursday, June 13th, 2024, and the last class is scheduled for Thursday, July 18, 2024.  If a class lands on July 4th, it will be rescheduled.

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Philanthropy, the Manager of Development Operations oversees proper recording and documentation of all gifts to the university and associated stewardship activities of the donors.

The Manager of Development Operations leads the department in maintaining appropriate records in compliance with current auditing best practices.  Using the data, the Manager will create and run reports as necessary analyzing trends indicating areas of success as well as areas needing improvement.

Additionally, the position requires knowledge of the IRS rules regarding gifts to a non-profit organization.  As the rules are constantly being updated, the Manager of Development Operations will need to stay abreast of changes in the rules.

Soka University of America is offering a full-time Residence Hall Coordinator position. This is a 2-year contract. 

Under the general supervision of the Director of Residential Life, the Residence Hall Coordinator directly oversees the implementation of a comprehensive residence hall program that meets the goals of the Office of Residential Life and Soka University of America.  The Coordinator will serve as a full time, live-in, on campus Residential Life team member and will be responsible for helping to build and support a community that allows a diverse group of residents to grow and develop individually and collectively.  The Coordinator will manage the effective general administrative operation of up to three residence halls of approximately 150 residents. The Coordinator will actively support the development and implementation of the mission, goals, principles, strategic direction, and evaluation of university housing and Residential Life.

The Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day operation of the hall office including nights and weekends; oversee the daily work of paraprofessional staff; supervise desk coverage on nights and weekends; perform crisis intervention, mediation and advisement for residents.  The Coordinator will develop, implement and evaluate co-curricular programs for resident and community development, coordinate Resident Assistant Selection and leadership trainings.  The Coordinator will serve as project manager for administrative projects during the academic year and summer including Room Selection coordination and student placement; summer residential programs; budget management and content development for digital media and online digital signage.

  • Supports and oversees all front-of-house (FOH) operations and activities for all presented, rental, and internal/academic events;

  • Provide direct administrative support to the General Manager of Soka Performing Arts Center (PAC);
  • Rental coordination, including help with contracts, scheduling, production meetings, invoicing with rental clients, and event day coordination;
  • Assist with contract administration for performances, assist in gathering FEC, tax paperwork, stage plots, etc.;
  • Assist with scheduling and calendars for PAC activities; assist with setting reminders and schedules for GM as needed;
  • Workday payment processing of invoices for PAC;
  • Music licensing reporting – BMI, ASCAP, SESAC;
  • Alcoholic Beverage Control license applications/letters;
  • Maintain filing system for General Manager (oversee student workers to aid this process);
  • Update Google Docs for dailies, masters, staff meeting agendas, and all other documents for the smooth running of the PAC;

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent to graduation from a four (4) year college or university in a job-related field

Experience

  • 2-3 years of experience working in event coordination and strong customer service skills, preferably in a performing arts center

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Communications, the Writer/Media Relations Manager is responsible for developing compelling, strategic content that elevates Soka University of America’s brand, achievements, and initiatives. Soka University of America English Language Program is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic person to tutor at our Academic Help Center (AHC), supporting students who are developing academic English as a Second Language (ESL). AHC tutors assist ESL students with writing, reading, grammar and pronunciation.  

This part-time position is from March 4, 2024 – April 26, 2025, working 10-20 hours per week, including evenings and weekends. Summer Programs run from June 3rd – Aug 1st.  Academic year program runs from September 2nd – April 26th.

Tutors should have experience working with international students and possess cultural understanding and sensitivity.  AHC tutors host Internet TOEFL (IBT) Workshops during the academic year and TOEIC Workshops style classes in the summer.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree with a strong concentration in writing.

Experience

  • Experience tutoring is helpful. 
  • Experience in ESL grammar preferred.
  • Experience with preparing students for the IBT or TOEIC is also a plus.

The hourly range for this position is $20 - $27 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
