Soka University of America (SUA) seeks to fill a full time tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Japanese Language & Culture. The teaching responsibilities of this position include conducting college-level courses in the field of Japanese language and culture; planning, evaluating, and revising curricula, course content, and methods of instruction; evaluating and grading students’ class work, assignments, and papers; preparing and delivering lectures to undergraduate and/or graduate students; administering and grading examinations; collecting bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments; initiating, facilitating, and moderating classroom discussions; keeping abreast of developments in the field by reviewing current research and studies; and confer with colleagues and participate in professional conferences.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Linguistics and have two years post-doctoral research experience and two years of teaching experience in linguistics or language and culture instruction from elementary to advanced at the university level. Additional experience to include: Ability to teach core curriculum. Experience serving on academic committees. Research specialty in diachronic pronouns in the Japanese language. Experience in reviewing manuscripts and/or abstracts for international and/or national publications.
Requires native or near native fluency in Japanese and English.
