Open Rank Professor of Studio Art

Soka University of America (SUA) seeks an experienced artist/educator (open rank) to teach courses in painting, drawing, and other creative arts areas to non-majors in a Liberal Arts setting, starting in August, 2019.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Qualified candidates will hold an MFA or other practice-oriented terminal degree, have demonstrated success and experience teaching at the college or university level, and a solid record of exhibiting work in the relevant areas. Preference will be given to candidates with the administrative ability to help direct the Creative Arts Program at Soka University, and with knowledge and ability in digital arts media. Additionally, the interest and ability to contribute broadly to SUA’s unique liberal arts curriculum, as described below, will be an important consideration.

The standard full-time teaching load at SUA is five courses per academic year, usually two courses per semester in one’s primary area and one course in SUA’s cross-disciplinary general education curriculum (Core, Modes of Inquiry, Learning Clusters or Creativity Forum; for program and course descriptions, please see the Academic Overview at SUA aims to foster rewarding intellectual relationships among faculty and between faculty and students through collaboration and mentoring. An appreciation of the centrality of peace, global citizenship, freedom, and human rights is the founding impetus for the university and its mission.
