Soka University of America (SUA) seeks a part-time/adjunct instructor to teach Principles of Economics (ECON 100) during the Fall and Spring term for the 2019-2020 academic year. Position begins in September, 2019. In the fall semester, the course meets two times a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) at 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM.

ECON 100 Course Description: How well do markets work in promoting an economy’s well-being? Should Obama have spent $800 billion to save the banks during the Great Recession? Must we sacrifice biodiversity to provide for the economic needs of society? To understand and participate meaningfully in any of these key social issues, one must know how the system works. That is exactly what this introductory Principles of Economics course is designed to do. To help one develop the faculty to critically evaluate contemporary economic issues, one will examine fundamental concepts such as the market, price, equilibrium, efficiency, equity, government intervention, externalities, monopoly, national income, unemployment, inflation, fiscal and monetary policies. By the end of this class, one will gain a foundation in economic literacy, as well as adequate practice in using the tools of theory developed in this class to analyze contemporary economic issues as reported in the media.
