Soka University of America invites applications for a part-time Writing Specialist to join the University Writing Center staff. The Writing Specialists' primary function is to assist students on all phases of the writing process and to foster long-term development of critical thinking and academic writing skills. They typically meet with students one-on-one in scheduled appointments or on a walk-in basis. Secondary job functions entail participation in services and projects that support the University Writing Center mission. Such services and projects may include but are not limited to conducting workshops, developing online and print resources for writing and teaching, administering writing assessment, and participating in outreach projects. Specialists may participate individually or collaboratively in any phase of a project, including conception, planning, coordination, implementation, and/or evaluation. Other functions may be assigned as needed by the University Writing Center Director.
This part-time position is for approximately 20 hours per week, including Sundays noon to 6 pm, Fridays until 7 pm, and at least one other weekday until 7 pm.
Job Qualifications:
Bachelors required/Masters preferred in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or related writing-intensive discipline. Some teaching experience is also required, preferably at the college level. ESL experience is a plus.
