Need-based aid which includes any grants, scholarships or loans which are dependent on your, or your parents, ability to fund your education at Soka require you to apply for aid. By completing a financial aid application, you will give us the information to determine your need and eligibility for grants, scholarships and loans. Financial Aid that is awarded on the basis of merit, such as the Merit Scholarship, Athletic Scholarships, or the Global Scholarship, is awarded without consideration of need and does not require a separate application to be considered for those scholarships.
The process begins on January 1st 2013 and runs for several months. It is advised to begin the process as soon as you can. The financial aid application process consists of four steps. You must complete all steps, chronologically, to be considered for need based aid. Students may begin to fill out applications for financial aid even before they have filed taxes. Students are encouraged to estimate the 2012 annual income on the FAFSA or International Financial Aid Application even if 2012 taxes have not been filed yet. During the verification period, students will have a chance to update this information with exact numbers.
New students should apply by the priority deadline of February 15th 2013 so that a total financial aid package can be delivered in early March. All applications must be turned in no later than midnight on March 2nd 2013.
All students can apply for financial aid. We encourage all new students to apply for financial aid in the first year of study.
While it can be time consuming the first time you undertake the process, funding for institutional need-based scholarships has drastically increased in the last few years making more and more students eligible.
