Garbage Dreams

Garbage Dreams -- Welcome to the world's largest garbage village located on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt.  The Zaballeen (Arabic for garbage people) recycle 80 percent of the trash they collect - far more than other recycling initiatives.  But now a multi-national corporation threatens their livelihood.  Follow three teenage boys who are forced to make choices that will impact the survival of their community.

Free.  Panel discussion will follow.

ITVS, the co-presenter of Independent Lens, in cooperation with PBS SoCal and the Humanities Concentration and Student Affairs at Soka University, are proud to present Community Cinema, a free monthly documentary film series.  ITVS funds and presents award-winning documentaries and dramas on public television, innovative new media projects on the web, and the Emmy Award-winning weekly series Independent Lens on Tuesday nights at 10 pm on PBS.

Previews of upcoming Independent Lens films will be shown from February to May at Soka University's Pauling Hall classroom theatre, followed by panel discussions with full audience participation encouraged.
