Nicholas Onuf, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of International Relations at Florida International University, Miami, where he taught from 1994 to 2005. He taught previously at Georgetown University (1966-1970) and American University (1970-1994), both in Washington DC. He has also been a visiting professor at Columbia University, University of Colombo, Ritsumeikan University, in Kyoto, and the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro. Since retiring, he has taught at the University of Southern California. He is the author of five books, two with his brother Peter Onuf. He has devoted his entire scholarly career to theory--international relations theory, international legal theory, political theory, social theory and its philosophical grounding. His talk is for people who don't know much about theory, even though they 'do' it all the time.
