What Is Alternative Spring Break? It is an alternative break for SUA students to perform short term volunteer service and learn about a variety of human issues such as literacy, poverty, racism, hunger, homelessness and the environment during the spring break period.
2011 Destination – Braddock, Pennsylvania This year your donation willl help a team of 13 Soka University student volunteers and 3 professional staff who are heading to Braddock, Pennsylvania. Braddock had experienced a complete collapse of the steel industry and the town’s population within 50 years fell from 20,000 people to under 3,000, leaving the town and people economically depressed. The ASB team will be working alongside Braddock community members and students from the University of Pittsburgh in landscaping and farming projects, helping to clean and restore the town’s Carnegie Library, and working with the youth through the Boys and Girls Club.
