Los Angeles Guitar Quartet

Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 8:00 PM

In their only Southern California appearance in 2013, the Grammy-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ) is coming to Soka University! Their inventive, critically acclaimed transcriptions of concert masterworks provide a fresh look at the music of the past, while their interpretations of works from the contemporary and world-music realms continually break new ground. This world-renowned ensemble will present an eclectic program including Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody #2 and world-music pieces from Africa, Indonesia, Chile, China and Ireland. They will perform the West-Coast Premiere of Yambé by Miami-based composer Carlos Rafael Rivera, and as a special treat, will play Shingo Fujii's Shiki: Seasons of Japan with 20 members of the USC Thornton Classical Guitar Department. Don't miss this special performance in one of Southern California's finest acoustic settings!

The LAGQ is: John Dearman ~ William Kanengiser ~ Scott Tennant ~ Matthew Greif
