The ESTONIAN NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (ENSO) has its origins as a small radio orchestra in 1926. It has become Estonia's representative orchestra over the years and has powerfully increased its international scope especially over recent years. The high quality of ENSO’s recordings have also attracted attention during recent years and have been recognized by several major international music magazines. The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra earned a Grammy Award for their recording of Sibelius’ cantatas.
This tour features young cellist NAREK HAKHNAZARYAN. Narek was awarded the Gold Medal at the 2011 XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition, the most prestigious prize given to a cellist. Already hailed a "seasoned phenom" by the Washington Post, and praised for his "intense focus and expressive artistry" by the New York Times, Hakhnazaryan is emerging as one of the most significant young artists on the world stage.
Their program will include (updated 9/4/2013):
- ARVO PÄRT: Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten
- DVOŘÁK: Cello Concerto in B minor, Op.104
- SIBELIUS: Symphony No.5 in E-flat major, Op.82
