A Weekend of Jazz with a Brazilian Flair and Grammy Nominated Artists at Soka Performing Arts Center

Aliso Viejo, CA – The 2016 Jazz Festival at Soka Performing Arts Center features Brazilian jazz group Trio Da Paz and jazz pianist Geoffrey Keezer during the weekend of Friday-Sunday, September 23-25, 2016. Single tickets are $30 for adults, and $26 for students, seniors and active military families. Tickets for groups of 10 or more are $25 each. Series packages include all four concerts for $92 ($80 for students, seniors and active military families).  Purchase tickets online at PerformingArts.Soka.edu or by calling 949-480-4ART (4278).

Featuring three of Brazil’s most in-demand musicians, Trio Da Paz updates the infectious spirit of jazz-oriented Brazilian music. Formed in 1990, Romero Lumbardo, Nilson Matta and Duduka da Fonseca redefine Brazilian jazz with their harmonically adventurous interactions, daring improvisations and dazzling rhythms. On Friday, September 23 at 8 p.m., Trio Da Paz and vocalist Maucha Adnet perform a tribute to the great Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Jobim. “Brazilian Vibes” is the theme for the Saturday, September 24 at 3 p.m. performance featuring the trio’s guitarist Lubambo. Joining Trio Da Paz for their performance later that same day, at 8 p.m., is the celebrated trumpet and flugelhorn player Claudio Roditi. This Rio-born player has been on the US jazz scene since 1970 and is known for his warm, fluid sound combining post-bop and Brazilian elements to every tune he plays.

Geoffrey Keezer’s singular style of intellectually abstract lyricism woven over exotically complex rhythms and harmonies earned him three Grammy nominations. On Sunday, September 25 at 7 p.m., the pianist is joined by musicians with whom he’s worked on various albums, including vibraphonist Joe Locke, Hawaiian slack key guitarist Keola Beamer, and vocalists Denise Donatelli and Gillian Margot.

Soka Jazz Festival is a gathering of new and familiar jazz musicians performing standards and original compositions in a world-class venue in one weekend, and presented in cooperation with Bluport Jazz. Purchasing a Jazz Festival series package offers a 23% savings off single-event tickets.
