Skilled with impressive dexterity, control, and clarity of expression, trumpet virtuoso Gilbert Castellanos makes music that sounds effortless but moves listeners on a deeply emotional level. Hard-Bop Jazz with The Cookers
Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 8:00 p.m.

“Player for player, there’s no better working band in jazz” (Boston Globe). The Cookers is an all-star septet comprised of Billy Harper (tenor saxophone), Cecil McBee (bass), George Cables (piano), Eddie Henderson (trumpet), Billy Hart (drums), David Weiss (trumpet), and Donald Harrison (alto saxophone). Their music resonates with the depth and beauty that only 250 years of combined experience can bring.

Cool Modern West Coast Jazz with The Phil Norman Tentet
Sunday, September 24, 2017, at 3:00 p.m.

Listening to a tentet is like hearing the very essence of big band jazz–with all the thrills of that remarkable, varied sound. Consider a tentet to be the chamber ensemble of jazz with rich potential for creative diversity and new, illuminating ways to arrange music for ten players in authentic jazz fashion. The Phil Norman Tentet will play a combination of standards and original tunes, with each member soloing.
