More than ever before this is the season of piano with four solo recitals by new and established pianists, two string quartets with featured piano soloists performing piano quintets, and a violin and piano duo.

Dalí Quartet with Olga Kern - Classical Roots, Latin Soul

The critically acclaimed Dalí Quartet’s passionate energy is poured into its signature mix of Latin American, classical, and Romantic repertoire. This performance features Cliburn Gold Medalist Olga Kern performing the Shostakovich Piano Quintet in G Minor, Op. 57. Additional works include Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 6 in F Minor and Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga’s String Quartet No. 3 in E-flat Major.

Solo Piano with Cliburn Medalist Daniel Hsu

Characterized by the Philadelphia Inquirer as a “poet…[with] an expressive edge to his playing that charms, questions, and coaxes,” 20-year-old American pianist Daniel Hsu earned the bronze medal and prizes for best performance of both the commissioned work and chamber music at the Fifteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Program: works by Mozart, Chopin, and Schumann’s Fantasie in C Major, Op. 17.

Violin & Piano Duo: Simone Porter & Hsin-I Huang

Last seen at Soka with Pacific Symphony in 2014, experience the artistic maturity that violinist Simone Porter brings to this intimate duo with pianist Hsin-I Huang. Huang is also no stranger to the Soka stage having appeared with Fabiola Kim in March 2018. Program: Mozart—Violin Sonata No. 24, Janáček—Violin Sonata, Salonen—Lachen verlernt, Bloch—“Nigun” from Baal Shem, Ravel—Tzigane, and Prokofiev—3 Pieces from Romeo and Juliet.

Solo Piano with Olga Kern - The Russians

Russian-American Olga Kern began her US career with a Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, the first woman to win in thirty years. Solo Piano with Sir András Schiff

Schiff’s performances are truly legendary: “so successful was the evening that the critic can only throw up his hands, wish you had been there, and quote Ira Gershwin's endearing tombstone inscription: ‘Words Fail Me’” (New York Times). Program: Bach—Capriccio in B-flat Major and Four Duets, Janáček—In The Mists, Bartók—Six Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm and Piano Sonata, and Schumann—Davidsbündlertänze. Solo Piano with Piotr Anderszewski
Sunday, April 14, 2019, at 3:00 p.m.

Polish pianist and composer Piotr Anderszewski is recognized for the intensity and originality of his interpretations. He has earned several high profile awards throughout his career, including the prestigious Gilmore Artist Award, given every four years to a pianist of exceptional talent. His recordings have been nominated for a Grammy and won multiple Gramophone Classical Music Awards. Program TBA.

Piano Quintets with Alexander String Quartet & Joyce Yang
Sunday,April 28, 2019, at 3:00 p.m.

Performing all over the world for more than three decades, the Alexander String Quartet is an important advocate of new music with more than 30 commissions. Returning to the Soka stage is the 12th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Silver Medalist, Joyce Yang. Program: Schumann—Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, Brahms—Quintet for Piano & Strings in F Minor, and a brand new quintet by Samuel Carl Adams, co-commissioned by Soka University.

Current series package holder renewals will begin on May 8, 2018. Current package holders will receive a special renewal email notice with instructions and a link to renew their current seats. Current package holder seats will be reserved until June 5, 2018. After that date, seats that are not renewed will be released for general sale. Online Renewal Instructions

Online Package Sales for new package subscribers will begin on June 12.

New series package requests will begin on June 12, 2018. An email notice will be sent out to all Soka Performing Arts Center patrons just prior to that date.

Package Sales end the day of the first performance in the series. 

Single-Event Tickets and Create Your Own Series packages go on sale July 10.

Tickets for individual events (Single-Event Tickets) will go on sale July 10, 2018. At that time, you may purchase any or all of the individual performances. You may also Create Your Own Series by selecting four events from our Season calendar.
