Pianist Mike Garson - From Bach to Bowie 
Friday, September 21, 2018, at 8:00 p.m.

Mike Garson has worked to make the world a more creative, compassionate, and compelling place. Best known for his impressive skills as a pianist with the late David Bowie, he is a respected composer and an evolving computer artist. Program: Garson’s newest composition, Symphony of Love. Special guests will include the Section Quartet, a “rock band-disguised-as-a-string-quartet” that scored Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, Whip It.

International Jazz with Kornél Fekete-Kovács
Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 3:00 p.m.    

Returning to the Soka stage from Budapest, Hungary, Kornél Fekete-Kovács plays trumpet, flugelhorn, and alto horn, and is also a composer and arranger. He was one of the founders of Budapest Jazz Orchestra, is the current leader of Modern Art Orchestra, formed the Fekete-Kovács Quintet in 2006, and his current project is the Kornél Fekete-Kovács Symphonic Project. For this concert, he will team up with local musicians.

Jazz Duo: Sara Gazarek and Josh Nelson
Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 8:00 p.m.    

Vocalist Gazarek’s top flight interpretations of the vast and varied American songbook are buoyed by the sensitivity of Nelson’s supple command of the piano. Gazarek is “the next important jazz singer” (LA Times). Nelson has performed and worked with some of the most respected names in music, including Natalie Cole, Queen Latifah, John Clayton, Walter Smith III, Ben Wendel, Seamus Blake, and Matt Wilson.

Latin Folkloric Jazz with Miguel Zenón Quartet
Sunday, September 23, 2018, at 3:00 p.m.

Nominated for a 2018 Best Latin Jazz Album Grammy, Guggenheim and MacArthur fellow Miguel Zenón masterfully balances and blends innovation and tradition. As composer and conceptualist, he strives to perfect a fine mix between Latin American folkloric music and jazz. The quartet includes Venezuelan pianist Luis Perdomo, Austrian bassist Hans Glawischnig, and fellow Puerto Rican, drummer Henry Cole.

Current series package holder renewals will begin on May 8, 2018. Current package holders will receive a special renewal email notice with instructions and a link to renew their current seats. Current package holder seats will be reserved until June 5, 2018. After that date, seats that are not renewed will be released for general sale. Online Renewal Instructions

Online Package Sales for new package subscribers will begin on June 12.

New series package requests will begin on June 12, 2018. An email notice will be sent out to all Soka Performing Arts Center patrons just prior to that date.

Package Sales end the day of the first performance in the series. 

Single-Event Tickets and Create Your Own Series packages go on sale July 10.

Tickets for individual events (Single-Event Tickets) will go on sale July 10, 2018. At that time, you may purchase any or all of the individual performances. You may also Create Your Own Series by selecting four events from our Season calendar.
