Immunization Requirements

Soka requires that all students show evidence of protection against Measles (Rubeola). This requires 2 doses of the MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine, one after the age of 5 years.

Another requirement is a current (within 12 months) TB (Tuberculosis) skin test. Only a PPD/Mantoux test is acceptable. A positive test result (10mm or greater) or a history of a positive result will need a current (within 12 months) chest x-ray.

Orange County Health Department (OCHD) states that all students with BCG vaccine need a TB skin testing. If a positive result occurs (10mm or greater), a chest x-ray is required and OCHD in Santa Ana is notified.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) strongly encourages the Meningococcal (Meningitis) vaccine. Meningococcal disease is a serious illness caused by bacteria. About 2,600 people get this disease each year in the U.S. 10-15% of these people die, in spite of treatment with antibiotics. College students, particularly those who live in dormitories, have a slightly higher risk of getting meningococcal disease. The vaccine can prevent 2 of the 3 important types of meningococcal disease in older children and adults. For more information visit the National Immunization Program's website at http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines or contact Health Services Clinic.

CDC also recommends the Flu vaccine for all students and residents (under 25 years old) living in Residence Halls. This vaccine will be offered as soon as it becomes available in the Fall Season.

In supporting the CDC and OCHD immunization guidelines, the following can be available in the Health Services Clinic. Vaccine or test costs are determined at the time of product purchase (call the clinic at x4143 for current prices).
