Aliso Viejo, CA – Garrick Ohlsson performs a piano recital at Soka Performing Arts Center on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $50 for adults; and $40 for students, seniors aged 62 and better, and active military families. Purchase tickets online or by calling 949-480-4ART (4278).

Since his triumph as winner of the 1970 Chopin International Piano Competition, Ohlsson has established himself worldwide as a pianist of magisterial interpretive and technical prowess. Although long regarded as one of the world’s leading exponents of the music of Frédéric Chopin, Ohlsson’s repertoire ranges across the entire canon piano literature. The program will include Beethoven’s Sonata in A Major, Op. 101; Brahms’s Fantasien, Op. 116; and Schubert’s Sonata in B-flat Major, D. 960 (Op. posth).

A frequent guest of Australian orchestras, Ohlsson has recently visited Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, and Hobart, as well as the New Zealand Symphony in Wellington and Auckland. An avid chamber musician, Ohlsson has collaborated with the Takacs, Cleveland, Emerson, and Tokyo string quartets, among other ensembles. Together with violinist Jorja Fleezanis and cellist Michael Grebanier, he is a founding member of the San Francisco-based FOG Trio. Passionate about vocal music as well, Ohlsson has appeared in recital with such legendary artists as Magda Olivero, Jessye Norman, and Ewa Podles.

The Guardian writes that Ohlsson “carries an air of senatorial authority at the keyboard [and] has a countenance that demands to be carved in stone.” To date he has at his command more than eighty concertos, ranging from Haydn and Mozart, to works of the twenty-first century, many of which were commissioned for him.
