Joaquín Palting: (Re)Formation
(Re)Formation serves as an invitation to meditate on the effect of human doing rather than human being. How do the externalities of our existence factor into our lived experiences? Equally, how do they factor into the experiences of other sentient beings? The artworks in this project invite viewers to consider the morality of humanity’s collective actions.
As a visual artist, Joaquín Palting is known for his conceptual storytelling, creating works using traditional large-format photography, video, and performance. He is currently a Lecturer of Art at San Diego State University and Adjunct Instructor at Soka University of America. He holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of California, Irvine.
The “(Re)Formation” exhibit will be located on the 1st floor of Founders Gallery.
Carolyn Monastra: Divergence of Birds
Divergence of Birds is a conceptual eco-photography project that uses socially-engaged art to address the environmental impacts of climate change and habitat destruction on species extinction. Paper cutouts of nearly 400 threatened birds are photographed in their current natural habitats to allude to the fact that, without proactive change, we might only have facsimiles of wildlife to enjoy in the future.
Artist, educator, and environmental activist Carolyn Monastra holds a BA from Fordham University and an MFA from Yale. Her climate-focused work has earned awards from The Puffin Foundation and BRIC Media Arts as well as residencies at Ucross, Djerassi, and Skaftfell Arts in Iceland. She lives in Brooklyn and works wherever birds are found.
The “Divergence of Birds” exhibit will be located on the 2nd floor of Founders Gallery.
