Hyon Jung Moon joined Soka University of America, Aliso Viejo in September 2000. She was promoted to Dean of Students in July 2016. She oversees all areas of student life including residential life, student activities, student services, athletics, career services, and counseling. Prior to 2016, she was Director of Student Services for 11 years while assisting the Dean of Students in advising student government leaders, responding to various student emergencies, and developing policies and procedures relating to Student Affairs.

Moon came to SUA from IGE, a market research consulting firm in Santa Ana, CA, where she worked as a project coordinator. She has also worked as a translator and interpreter at the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan. Prior to that she worked for American Express Travel Related Services in Phoenix, Arizona, and Tokyo as a Project Specialist, International Management of Technology Fellow. Moon has also taught Korean for Berlitz Languages in Phoenix.

Moon received her BSE and MSE in Industrial Engineering from Arizona State University in Tempe. She also earned her master of international management of technology from Thunderbird in Glendale, Arizona, a master of liberal arts in humanities from Soka University of Japan and received her EdD from UCLA’s Educational Leadership Program.

Moon is a native speaker of English and Korean and is proficient in Japanese. She has been an International Management of Technology Fellow at the Arizona State University Corporate Leaders Program and is a past president of the Institute of Industrial Engineers of ASU Chapter.

Moon resides in South Orange County.
