Luca Iemi is a cognitive neuroscientist who joined the Social and Behavioral Sciences Concentration at Soka University of America in 2026 as a visiting assistant professor. He studies how spontaneous brain activity shapes perception and behavior, with a particular focus on neural oscillations. At Soka, his research explores the phenomenon of mind-wandering: when our mental experience becomes unrelated to the here and now. He combines electrophysiological recordings with participants’ subjective reports to investigate how brain activity relates to the spontaneous thoughts that arise during mind-wandering.
