Seiji Takaku joined Soka University of America in 2002 as a professor of psychology. Before joining the faculty at SUA, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at Minnesota State University. He received his BA with magna cum laude from UCLA, his MA from California State University, Long Beach, and his PhD from Claremont Graduate University. His dissertation on a cross-cultural examination of forgiveness won the Arthur H. Brayfield Dissertation Award for the Most Meritorious Dissertation in Psychology in 2000.
At Soka University of America, he teaches a variety of courses in psychology including Social Psychology, Positive Psychology, Sport Psychology, and Experimental Research Methods. He received numerous awards for his research and teaching.
He is a native of Japan and before coming to the United States he played baseball competitively and dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player. He has also coached/managed Aliso Viejo Little League teams for seven years in the past including three years of AVLL All-Stars Teams and led the teams to the State Championship tournament two years in a row.
In his spare time, he loves reading good books and playing golf with his twin sons.
