Short film Screening of "The Present" ft. Filmmaker Farah Nabulsi and Executive Producer Mohannad Malas

Please join the United Nations Association (UNA) of Soka University and the Golden Eagle Film Club for a special short film screening of the award-winning movie "The Present" which is the story of a father and his young daughter who set out in the West Bank to buy his wife a gift. Between soldiers, segregated roads and checkpoints, how easy would it be to go shopping?

The screening will feature special guests Oscar-nominated and BAFTA award winning filmmaker Farah Nabulsi and executive producer Mohannad Malas as they share insights into the making of this powerful film.

The film screening will take place at Soka University of America in Pauling 216 in Aliso Viejo, CA, USA on Tuesday, April 23rd from 5:30-7:30 P.M.

More About Farah Nabulsi:

Farah Nabulsi is an Academy Award Nominated and BAFTA Award Winning Palestinian British filmmaker. She has been writing and producing short fiction films since 2016. Farah's directorial debut The Present (2020) won over 50 International Film Festival Jury and Audience Awards, a BAFTA Award and an Oscar Nomination. It was distributed on various platforms including Canal+ and Netflix Worldwide.

Farah’s multi-award winning directorial feature length film debut, The Teacher, which she wrote, directed and co-produced, had its World Premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival in Official Selection (September 2023). The Teacher stars Award-winning Palestinian actor, Saleh Bakri and well known British actress, Imogen Poots. Farah is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

More About Mohannad Malas:

Mohannad Malas is a strong advocate for education, innovation, and helping minorities. He is the recent recipient of an honorary Doctorate degree in Humane Letters from California State University CSUSB.

Mohannad Malas produced and executive produced over ten films including award wining films such as: The Game Changers , 1948: Creation and Catastrophe, American East, Americanish, The Great Muslim American Road Trip and 2 Oscar-nominated films Stranger at the Gate and The Present, which also won BAFTA.

Mohannad Malas established the Malas Chair for a Master’s program in Islamic Studies at Claremont Graduate University, the Malas chair in Islamic Law at the University of California Irvine, and the Malas Fund for the Program in Islamic Law at Harvard Law School.
