About the Presentation:
Years of working on paper saw my colors steadily brightening. In early 2022 it felt imperative that I return to painting on canvas. The process of stretching, smelling the canvas and Gesso, brought joy to my heart, not unlike like reconnecting with dear old friends. I felt bright colors welling up inside me. In my mind’s eye I was coloring the white canvas with full intensity colors. “Chromatic Modulation” is best way to describe the process. My first steps felt clumsily-doomed by the unused-to feel of the brushes on canvas. I was relearning how a painting pushes back and redirects movements of my hand and changes predisposed color choices fighting for supremacy with my initial inspiration, forcing me to readjust their juxtaposition. In that struggle the painting and I both won. This presentation will illuminate the mental, physical and creative interaction between idea, artist and creation.
