Kaori graduated with a concentration in International Studies in 2007. She is a Youth and Family Adjustment Counselor in Refugee Resettlement at Catholic Charities in Chicago, IL. She assists refugee families and their children in navigating the education system, advocates for their education and well-being, liaises with teachers and schools, and supports them through after-school tutoring services.

Q: What is your best memory as an International Studies concentrator?

A: Learning about migration through our International Studies writing class. This class introduced me to refugee issues and the lack of education for children in refugee camps.

Q: How did International Studies prepare you for life after SUA?

A: I learned about global issues and refugee and migration topics that inspired me to do my master’s in International Education and Development, and ultimately work in education within the refugee resettlement field.
