In Kampala, Uganda

Hands are symbols of connection; tools we use to reach out to others, dry a loved one’s tears, caress the heavy back of a stranger during an embrace, lightly touch the dew from the lemon grass strand. In light of Amanda Gorman’s “The Hill We Climb,” we have to realize that we have to be active and fight for unity. That might mean putting ourselves aside and bracing for impact to protect a universal idea of humanity.
