Valparaíso, Chile

SUA offers two study abroad programs in Valparaíso through IFSA and ISA.

I never imagined before going to Chile that I would build such strong connections with local people, take initiative, and become more open to different ideas and cultures.

IFSA, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso; Universidad de Valparaíso

This program is for students with higher-level Spanish proficiency.

Program Characteristics

This program is only offered in the fall semester, which takes place from mid-July to mid-December.

2.5 GPA

You can choose to study at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso or Universidad de Valparaíso. All students take advanced written and oral Spanish in addition to student-selected classes alongside degree-seeking students. 

You will take a four-day excursion to either the Mapuche communities near the Andean mountains (fall semester) or La Serena in northern Chile (spring semester). 

You will live with a Chilean host family which provides three meals a day and laundry. Host families live in Viña del Mar, 15 minutes from Valparaíso.

 

ISA, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso

This program is for students with lower-level Spanish proficiency.

Program Characteristics

The fall semester takes place from mid-July to mid-December. The spring semester begins in late February and ends in late June.

2.5 GPA

You will enroll in the Spanish and Latin American Studies program, designed for all levels of proficiency.

You can take excursions to destinations such as Horcón and Zapallar, Isla Negra, Pucón, Santiago, National Stadium, and Valle Nevado.

You will live with a Chilean host family which provides three meals a day and laundry.
